Soo Parklife Brisbane officially kicks off a week from today!
To get into the mood of what is usually the start of the festival season we thought we'd have a chat to Harley Streten a.k.a FLUME, who this year, is officially popping his Parklife cherry as an artist on the bill. After doing a bit of research and snooping around some of the tracks Flume has posted on the internet, we couldn't resist the urge to ask him all about this ridiculous comment that was posted on his remix of Hermitude's track 'Hyperparadise.' (Read Above) Tune into the show on tuesday to hear the full 'awks' situations we put him through! Think piss, chicks, dad's and festivals! Part one of the chat is linked here...
Attn: all budding muso's in desperate need of a film clip!
Recently Jake had the pleasure of helping out some of the second year students @ Griffith Film School on their viral video production titled 'SKATE.' Bag the action above!
The idea behind the clip was to create a viral video that sold a particular product, the product here being AKG headphones! The feel of this clip is set to replicate the starting scenes of the movie 'Drive' featuring Ryan Gosling. The lads and ladette's worked tirelessly over 3 nights at different locations around brisbane perfecting their craft, paying particular attention in detailing camera angles, shot selection, lighting and shot structure!
Dane, Anthony, Mitch, Morgan, Ben and Bianca formed quite the team in piecing this one together, their individual roles are listed on the YouTube link!
If your keen for film clip, don't be shy! Get in contact with these guys and i'm sure they'll be able to do you a pretty sweeeeeeet deal! If not, i'm sure they'll accept back scratching forms of barter!
Last night kicked off BIGSOUND live 2012 with Brisbane playing host to a large number of local and international acts. For those unaware of what the hell Bigsound live is all about... basically its the Australian version of SXSW... if your still grinding your teeth then FRICKEN google it!
We had the pleasure of heading along to Fortitude Valley to snag some fantastic local and interstate acts including Fishing, Flume, Boy In A Box, Rufus, Yes You, and Pigeon. The stand outs of the night were sydney based trio Rufus who really brought the house down with their energetic, enigmatic, and uplifting party set. Their EP 'Blue' was sent to us a couple of months ago and formed quite the downtempo ambient body of work though off the record these guys seemed like a completely different band! 'Fishing' showed signs of something bigger to come with uniquely pitch shifted raps layered over well produced post dub-step beats, certainly an act to keep a close eye on in 2013.
With so much to more to say about just how good an event like this is for Brisbane and the Australian music industry, we thought we'd just collate a few images and let you guys draw upon your own imaginations as to how good this event is... or you could just check out all the footage and images from the official website!
Yesterday on the show we were lucky enough to have Danny Harley, a.k.a The Kite String Tangle, come in and give us a rundown on what this exciting alias is all about. Frequented readers of this blog would know that Danny is also a member of Brisbane electronic band Pigeon... whoops, i forgot no one reads this... my bad, Anyway we were lucky enough to hear a sneak peak of Tinder, a track Danny has been working on though is yet to release and boy were we blown away by this lads talent! Not only musically but also in music knowledge with Danny scoring six and three quarters, out of ten on 'How Bandy is the Band,' and smashing Pat at a game of kite string untangling! Peep the video above to see exactly what went down in studio!
Last tuesday on the show an old school mate, Elliot Gooch... YES his surname is GOOCH... stitched us up with an interview with his band 'The Vernons.' Gooch himself wasn't able to get out of his work commitments to come and hang out for an hour, so he sent us johnny and James, the lead singer and lead guitarist of the band. The lads shared insight into their recent recordings with ARIA award winning producer Govinda Doyle whilst also speaking up about their experience with SAE student sound engineers... and how much of an EPIC FAIL that can be. We also heard of the troubles they experienced after changing their name from 'The Pescadoraes' to 'The Vernons' and how offended the crowd was after announcing it to their fans. Check out the video posted above of the lads performing one of their originals 'Miss May' live in studio or hit them up on their Facebook, link posted below. http://www.facebook.com/thevernonsband
Waking up on a monday morning after a weekend of pulling double shifts, working two jobs and spending half of the earnings i'd made on eating out, truly epitomises the extent of my first world problems! The weekend, now over, my heart is still pumping and i'm stepping out of a bed with blankets rather then a cave with leaves, clarifies that the problems i am often faced with are really nothing to be worried about. For me, It's days like these that make finding new music the biggest treat a 23 year old western-world human could ever wake up to. Sometimes days like these can be compared to christmas, or a birthday, though disappointingly, that wasn't today! This morning i discovered the sounds of 'The Kite String Tangle!' My pessimistic attitude towards living subsided, i thought positively about my food and bank account situation, and my life as an 'energetic-youth-kickarse-motherfucker' transformed into fruition! After reading the bio listed on soundcloud, Danny Harley, aka 'The Kite String Tangle' appears to have already cemented a place within the Australian music scene. Having already played festivals such as Splendour, Peats Rigde, and Parklife, as a member of another band, it's safe to say that this mystical music making creature definately knows what the fuck he is doing! My suspicions lead me to believe that band is Brisbane unearthed outfit Pigeon, though i'm not 100% sure so stay tuned to see if we can get this cracker on our show and unlock the answers! Yarda, yarda, yarda, this guy (Danny Harley) makes fucken cool music, so listen to it and follow him! http://soundcloud.com/thekitestringtangle
Ever wondered what happens to a chemist after it stops trading as a chemist? Look above! One Nine Seven Eight is located at 117 Enoggera Terrace in Paddington and from the outside forms a coffee shop known to some, as 'The Snog' whilst to others, and to the owners... 'The Cabin!' Just a dog-legs walk off the main drag from Latrobe Tce, this little wonder will truly fulfil any cats curiosity! The coffee shop out the front makes home to the super infamous Blackstar coffee bean, produced locally off similar residential side-streets in West End. With 'The Snog' playing host to Australia's best 'spanish toast.' Seriously, this shit will have you craving it in your sleep! Whilst the back of the ex-chemist forms quite the hipsters dream, stocking labels such as Mr. Simple, Herschel Supply Co., Sunday Somewhere Eyewear, Ed Construct, Westbury, Happy Socks, Erin Lightfoot, Super Awesome, Coal, Cards by Felix and a stack of other well crafted threads. Be sure to experience this place, as it is just that... A fucken EPIC retail experience. Super friendly staff man the front of house whilst the store is awaiting your perusal. Welcome Tales in Space! Today we had the pleasure of receiving this very fascinating and catchy tune, Starwars! A tune produced by Sydney Duo Tales In Space. The chaps are said to write, play, and record their own tunes in their own studio in their own home! Next level SHIT! All of this is conducted whilst wearing scientistic lab coats and wearing glasses with no lenses, FICTION. Regular followers of this blog, if there are any of you out there... Sorry. Sorry that i've taken a break from keeping you up to date with the latest splash of music news, i too understand that it may not be the latest, but it sure as hell sounds real when reading this blog! Anyway, i'm back to help you out! I've found something and i believe you guys deserve the GOD DAMN RIGHTS to listen to it. Lemonade.... WTF! I know. This... is... a... band! Formed in San Fran, that hipster-ass place in the USofA, this all male dominated 3-piece initially crafted their music as visceral, psychedelic, and "vaguely tropical rave journeys," that supposedly touched upon the masses, though never quite resonated and stuck around in peoples itunes libraries. Lemonade released a self-titled LP in 2008 influenced by artist such as Liquid Liquid, Sons of a Loop Da Loo Era and Digital Mystikz. Though if your anything like me, you probs have no fucken idea who any of those influences are, making sense as to why you would of never of heard these guys. Since that first release, Lemonade moved to New York, released a second body of work, Pure Moods, and attempted to ditch this Schizophrenic palate for something more along the POP music lines. It seems like the lads decided to "keep it real," merging a plethora of sounds and global rhythms into something more listenable to a wider audience, hence forming this brand new LP, Diver. The newby documents the band as operating as a focused unit, something that seems a tad more interested in speaking to an audience, rather then merely 'blowing the loads' of a bunch of MDMA filled pill heads (Not saying that wouldn't fun, as it would). Labelled as a bold and sensual electronic pop record, this first single 'Ice Water' is something i know you'll enjoy. Listen out for it on our show or watch the clip above!
Just thought we'd share this little two part documentary we found whilst spending some solid perusal time on the internet... It's a story about Ross Capicchioni, your average American 17 year old who one day was shot by a close friend and practically left dead on the sidewalk. He lived to tell his amazing tale, though it's clips like these that make us realise how lucky we are to be Australian and also how lucky we are to live the lives we all lead. The film was made by the The Berrics, an American skate park owned by pro skaters Steve Berra (Ber) and Eric Koston (ric).
So we arrived at the station this morning and this... pictured above... was in our fricken pidgin hole! Blown away at how amazingly cool the artwork and spiffy white 7" vinyl record sitting smack bang in the front of our faces was, we just had to play it, and boy, are these guys the new black! Not only do they ooze the word dapper with their artwork, their music adds to this vibe to complete the package. Often its really fucken disappointing when something arrives this cool and sounds hyper shit house, though in this case it's definitely all thumbs up! So give these guys a spin Clubfeet, a collective of fellows out of Melbourne town! 'City of Light' and 'This time' are their recent masterpieces, consisting of heavily compressed disco kicks, synthetic sparkles and catchy pop lyrics, you'll be rehearsing these tunes in the shower... regularly! Enjoy, and check their facey page for regular updates on their whereabouts! http://www.facebook.com/HelloClubfeet

Yaaaaaaaay! We love hearing new music, and thanks to the bold initiative from band member RYAN of Red Aces, we've just heard a shit-hot new song! Hailing from Melbourne, this four piece rock outfit pictured above, holding a ridiculous cardboard sign whilst walking in the middle of the street... get off the bloody road lads! I digress, where was i... Yes, their new EP was produced by Paul 'Woody' Annison (Children Collide, Hunting grounds) and their track 'The End' is fucken sick! Over the past ten years the careers of two highly talented musical siblings have moved uncannily
parallel to one another. Shortly after finishing high school the pair both moved from
their hometown of Rockhampton to the big smoke we like to call BrisVegas to further pursue
musical education and endure the long, arduous and lonely road of becoming struggling musicians. This road Inevitably launched the pair's separate solo
music careers, cumulating in a total of 5 epic EPs! Hit fast forward to today, the pair consisting of Dan & Hannah Acfield, now side
by side, have a new single, and a sound that is one to be recognised! (seriously we're gonna flog the shit out their song "after you"!) If you've been searching for a magical dance floor somewhere nestled in the midst of the African Amazon, well, here it is! In the form of a record... enter the realm of White Arrows. So who are these mystical African dance savvy musicians you ask? Based in L.A, the White Arrows are made up of brothers, singer and drummer, Mickey and Henry Church respectively, guitarist J.P Cabellero, keys & beats Andrew Naeve, and on the bass Steven Vernet. The lads have toured with acts such as the Naked and Famous, Cults, Those Darlins and opened for Weezer! Last tuesday's show turned out to be quite a female affair! We aired interviews with two sydney based songstreess Catcall, and Adele, from Adele & Glenn. Our 4ZZZ interview correspondent Pak 'The Pak-Man,' had the pleasure of interviewing Catcall, discussing the hype surrounding her latest album 'The Warmest Place.' Interestingly the catalyst for writing 'The Warmest Place,' was formed from the sudden death of Catherine's father, with the album seeking inspiration from Patti Smith, Roxy Music and Fleetwood Mac. Jake's catch up with former Go-Betweens member Adele, from Adele & Glenn is posted below. Hear what she had to say in regards to her new album 'Carington Street.' To top off the female invasion, the show rounded out with Brisbane based trip-hop artist Carly Dickinson dropping by the studio to inform Pat on her upcoming 'Still Life' EP launch. We were lucky enough to attend the 'Still Life' EP launch held at Black Bear Lodge and were both blown away by Carly's Performance. Her EP is a mixture of trip-hop, orchestral and down tempo soul, highlighting the powerful voice of Carly and comforted by contemporary string & ambient electronic arrangements. We highly advise you take a look at her new EPK that features an interview with Wally Debacker from Gotye! link attached. http://www.facebook.com/adeleandglenn http://www.facebook.com/carlydickensonmusic http://www.facebook.com/catcallmusic
Matt, Paul & Todd... from left to right (above) form the band Young Griffo. The guys released their debut EP 'Tiny Islands" late last year and dropped by Triple Zed Brisbane to talk to us about their upcoming acoustic show at Dowse Bar, Paddington. Known for their loud original electric rock sounds, the lads unplugged the distortion pedals and striped it back to perform a live acoustic version of their song 'Pennies.' Matt clearly stated that the lads were back in the studio working on their new single, 'Cutting Sails' and have dubbed it their loudest song yet! So keep an ear out for new music from these guys. We also had the pleasure of crowing Young Griffo as leaders, of our infamous, never-been-heard-on-radio-before game 'How Bandy is the Band!' Scoring a whopping 8 out of 10, these guys really do eat music for breakfast! To hear the full podcast scroll down. http://www.facebook.com/younggriffo

The term 'Post Dubstep" has been loosely floating around the independent music scene for the last year. A term that basically represents anything to do with vocal pitch shifting, spasmodic ambient sounds and soothing low end bass frequencies. To sum up the genre we suggest you check out these guys... Mount Kimbie! Jake had the pleasure of checking out their gig at The Hifi Bar in West End last night, and they surely didn't disappoint. With an encore that will make you reconsider why you attended the first half of the show, these futuristic British musicians definitely know how to trip you out.
